On Tuesday 23rd June 2026, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of what was originally Knaphill Recreation Bowling Club but is now called Knaphill Bowling Club, we were honoured to entertain a team from Bowls England led by Jennie Cole Vice President - West for Bowls England.
The Bowls England team consisted of players from many different counties, including a number of past, current and future County and National Presidents from both the outdoor and indoor game of bowls.
Alan Tingay, President of Knaphill Bowling Club welcomed Bowls England and thanked them for helping the club to celebrate its Centenary.
The Knaphill players were each presented with a Bowls England commemorative badge.
Due to the extreme heat the match was played over just 15 ends with a hydration break after 8 ends. The match finished all square at 3 rinks apiece, with Knaphill just shading Bowls England on shots scored by 89-78.
Jennie Cole explained that she used to live locally and remembered walking past Knaphill's bowling club in the late 1960s and remarked that the club had clearly changed a lot since those days.
